Millions of individuals around the world live with Fibromyalgia (FMS) every day and numbers are increasing. This book exists because too many people are left alone once diagnosed - I know I was. I did not set out to become an expert in chronic pain, I became one because I had to survive. I decided to create the guide I wish I had during my worst years with FMS, viewable for free, to help families and friends offer the right support and patients reclaim their life after diagnosis. ‘First came the shaking, then the pain tearing through my muscles and bones. My body shook uncontrollably, I knew something was deeply wrong. Within a month, I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. Every morning I woke with dread not knowing what level of pain I would be in. Some days I could walk, other days the pain was so intense I crawled across the floor on my hands and knees screaming in agony. I forgot words I had once used every day. I couldn't read or think straight. Nothing behaved predictably as it once did. While the trembling eventually subsided, the pain did not. It would stay - daily - for eight years. And so began a journey. A journey no one asks for, but a journey common for millions across the world. Medications, trials, failures, pain. Invalidation, isolation, grief, pain. Loss of work, financial despair, past dreams stolen, pain. Alternate therapies, hope, failure, agony, pain. Desperation, shame, ‘I don’t want to be here anymore’, still.. pain. My journey to the life I have now, it didn’t happen overnight, but over time I developed a system to regain my life. One I must live by every day.’
